This page contains an inventory of all the puppies that were born on February 7 2010. There is a short detail of the initial examination of the puppy and a face and ridge picture. The pictures where taken only moments after the puppy was born and that is why many of them look wet. Ridges do not change over time and are most visible immediately after birth when the puppy is still wet. An accurate assessment of the ridge is best done right after birth when we can see the details most clearly.
All of the puppies in this litter were born with beautiful shiny and thick fur. Overall the litter weights were very high especially in a litter of this size. In addition to their size the puppies were exceptionally strong and mobile. They were able to cover the entire distance of the breeding box looking for mama immediately after birth. They are all fat, content, vocal and so far very robust! Hopefully good fortune will continue this trend.

12 pups born, 7 males and 5 females
Of course this is just a reference page. These are "babies" and not miniature adults so much of their appearance will change in the next several weeks. White markings will shrink or disappear, pink spots will get fur and fur will change colour. In fact, ridgebacks change colour for up to two years so commenting on colour here is hardly meaningful. What I can say is that all of the puppies are of the red wheaten colour and that is consistent over the litter.
It has been my past experience that many people enjoy this page and use it as a reference for identifying puppies in the pictures that I will post later when they leave the breeding box and the real action begins. These are not the final evaluations of the puppies. They will have their final and official evaluations at 6 weeks of age.

was the first puppy and first male to be born. He weighed in at 498g. He is a red wheaten colour with a very small spot of white on his chest that may disappear in the next few weeks. His ridge is just shy of the hips but acceptable in length with two symmetrical crowns and a symmetrical box. An absolute powerhouse, beautiful ridge, good tail and very promising correct male.
was our second puppy born and he weighed in at 498 g. He is a dark red wheaten in colour and may have a shadow mask although it is hard to say for sure. His ridge is very long and wide with two symmetrical crowns and a nicely shaped club box. He will have a fair sized white spot on his chest . His tail looks good and he is active, vocal and very mobile. A beautiful boy.
is the third male born and the fifth puppy to arrive. A big boy weighing in at 505g. He is a dark red wheaten colour with no mask and only small spot of white on his chest. His ridge is normal length and width with 2 symmetrical crowns. His tail is normal. A very beautiful dark , strong boy.
is named for the unusual white steak of pigmented fur that he has on his back. Sixth in the birth order and fourth male to arrive he weighed in at 499g. His ridge is normal in length with two parallel top crowns but he has a third crown about half way down his ridge. It is hard to say if the steak on his back will stay. Time will tell.
